Human Environment Committee

Safety, Security and Environmental Issues.

  • Keith Fielder has contributed to crime prevention in the area by chairing the monthly Sector Policing forum and encouraged members of the local community to participate in social Crime Walk in collaboration with SAPS.  Norbert Furnon-Roberts focused on safety, security and environmental concerns in connection with the construction of the Green Point Stadium.
Mr Furnon-Roberts wants it to go on record that the consortium of Murray & Roberts and WBHO have managed to keep incidents to a remarkable minimum.
  • The challenges lie in the future once the stadium, the sports clubs on the common and the urban park become operational.
  • Professional transport, safety, security and environmental management by the city and the operator will be key to minimise negative impact on the area.
  • This will require a high level of vigilance on our part and robust interaction, if need be, with the authorities and the operator.
  • The HEC has also attended the monthly meeting of the Good Hope Sub Council chaired by our ward councillor, Mr Jean Pierre Smith, to remain abreast of matters affecting our area such as new by-laws, liquors licenses etc.
  • Furthermore the HEC has attended the weekly crime prevention forum and the monthly community police forum in as much as the adjoining areas of De Waterkant and the CBD are concerned.
